Notification Management

Learn how to manage your notifications in Patcherly, including email and in-app notification preferences.

If you are new to the dashboard, see Onboarding (dashboard) and What Patcherly is for the checklist, optional page tours, and the floating entry that appears until you finish or dismiss those flows. Preferences on this page control email and in-app delivery; some alerts can also appear briefly as an in-dashboard notice while you work.

What are Notifications?

Notifications keep you informed about important events in your Patcherly account: - New errors detected on your site or app once your connector reports them - Error patches applied or failed - Rollback events (see Rollback) - Trial expiration warnings

Accessing Your Notifications

Notification Bell

The notification bell is located in the top right corner of your dashboard header.

Features: - Unread Count Badge: Shows the number of unread notifications - Quick Dropdown: Click the bell to see your 5 most recent notifications - Quick Actions: - Mark notifications as read - Delete notifications - Access notification center

Notification Center

For a complete view of all your notifications:

  1. Click Notifications in the left sidebar menu
  2. View all notifications with filtering options
  3. Filter by:
  4. Status: All, Unread, or Read
  5. Type: Error detected, Patch applied, Rollback, etc.

Managing Notification Preferences

You can customize which notifications you receive and how you receive them.

Access Your Preferences

  1. Open Profile from the user menu in the top bar (click your name or avatar)
  2. Open the Notifications tab
  3. Notification Preferences - toggle Email, In-App, and (when connected) Slack, Discord, Teams, and Webhook per business event. Email and in-app are personal; chat columns are workspace-wide. OS toast toggles for Patcherly Desktop live in the desktop app under Preferences, not in this table.
  4. Chat & webhooks - below the preference table. Connect channels, pick teams/channels, and paste an other-webhook URL. Workspace owners and members with full workspace access or Manage chat integrations can save settings; all team members see available apps and setup guides. See Webhook notifications

Event Types

Common Events (for all users): - New Error Detected - Alert when a new error is found on your sites - Analysis Failed - Alert when automatic AI analysis gives up after all retries (one notification per error). Retry manually from the Errors page. - Error Patched Successfully - Notification when an error is fixed - Patch Application Failed - Alert if a patch fails to apply - Rollback Triggered - Notification when a rollback occurs - Connector Authentication Issue - Alert when a connector's OAuth token can no longer be refreshed (re-pair with patcherly login) - Connector Issue - Notification about connection problems - App restart after patch - Automated post-apply shell steps completed successfully (when your plan includes app restart automation) - App restart automation disabled - Automated restart was turned off after a failed run (review manifest) - App restart rate limited - Restart was skipped because the hourly limit was reached

These appear when your workspace has app restart automation. Plan names and limits are on the Pricing page. See App restart automation for how commands are configured.

  • Trial Ending Soon - Reminder before your trial expires
  • Trial Expired - Alert when your trial has ended

Configuring Preferences

  1. In the Notification Preferences section, toggle each event type on or off
  2. Configure separately for Email and In-App channels (personal)
  3. When a chat provider is connected, use the Slack, Discord, Teams, or Webhook column for workspace-wide delivery (same rows as email/in-app where supported)
  4. By default, all notifications are enabled

Tip: You can enable email for critical events (errors, patches) and in-app for frequent updates (new errors).

Saving Changes

  1. After adjusting your preferences, click Save Notification Preferences
  2. You'll see a success message confirming the changes
  3. To reset all preferences to defaults, click Reset to Defaults

Working with Notifications

Mark as Read

Notifications are automatically marked as unread when first created.

Mark individual notification as read: 1. From the notification bell dropdown - click the notification row (also opens its site page), or use Mark all as read 2. From the Notification Center - click Mark Read 3. Dismissing an in-dashboard toast (X) also marks that notification as read

Mark all as read: 1. Go to Notification Center 2. Click "Mark All Read" button at the top

Delete Notifications

Remove notifications you no longer need:

  1. Hover over a notification in the dropdown or center
  2. Click the delete button (trash icon)
  3. Confirm the deletion

Note: Deleting a notification doesn't change your preferences - you'll still receive similar notifications in the future. Exception: deleting a Prometheus / observability alert notification (including production dashboard heap/RSS System Alerts) suppresses new alerts for that rule until the underlying metric is healthy again. Local next dev does not send those heap/RSS emails.

Filter Notifications

In the Notification Center, use filters to find specific notifications:

  1. Filter by Status:
  2. Select "All" to see all notifications
  3. Select "Unread" to see only new notifications
  4. Select "Read" to see only notifications you've reviewed

  5. Filter by Type:

  6. Choose a specific event type
  7. Only notifications of that type will display

  8. Click Apply Filters to apply your selections

Email Notifications

When you enable email notifications, you'll receive professional emails for events you care about.

Email Notification Features

  • Professional Design: Branded emails with clear information
  • Action Items: Each email includes recommended next steps
  • Trackable Links: Links to view more details in your dashboard
  • Smart Scheduling: Emails respect your configured preferences

Email Settings

If messages are missing or delayed, check spam and your notification preferences; open Support from the bottom of the dashboard sidebar if delivery still fails.

Troubleshooting Emails

Not receiving emails?

  1. Check your notification preferences:
  2. Verify the event type is enabled for email
  3. Ensure "Email Notifications" is toggled on

  4. Check your spam folder:

  5. Emails may be filtered
  6. Add no-reply@{your-domain} to contacts

  7. Open Support from the bottom of the dashboard sidebar if problems persist

In-App Notifications

In-app notifications appear in your dashboard and notification bell.

Benefits of In-App Notifications

  • Real-Time: See updates as they happen
  • No Email Overload: Keep your inbox clean
  • Contextual: Click to view related details in dashboard
  • Easy Management: Delete or mark as read with one click

In-App Notification Settings

  1. Go to ProfileNotification Preferences
  2. Enable/disable specific events under "In-App Notifications"
  3. Check your notification bell frequently for updates

Best Practices

Optimizing Your Preferences

  1. Critical Events: Enable both email and in-app for:
  2. New error detected
  3. Patch failed
  4. Rollback triggered

  5. Important Events: Enable in-app only for:

  6. Error patched (frequent if you have many errors)
  7. Connector authentication issues (less frequent)

  8. Low Priority Events: Consider disabling for:

  9. Trial ending (you'll get multiple reminders)
  10. In-app notifications for all events if you prefer email only

Managing Notification Volume

  • Review and delete old notifications regularly
  • Use filters to find specific notifications
  • Adjust preferences if you're receiving too many alerts
  • Archive read notifications to keep notification center clean

Staying Informed

  1. Check regularly: Visit notification center at least weekly
  2. Review settings: Update preferences as your needs change
  3. Monitor email: Ensure you're receiving email notifications
  4. Test notifications: Trigger a test to verify everything is working

Common Questions

Q: Will I miss important notifications if I disable email? A: No - in-app notifications will still appear. Check your notification bell and notification center regularly.

Q: Can I receive notifications on my phone? A: Patcherly does not have a mobile app. Use email on your phone, the browser dashboard, or the optional Patcherly Desktop app for OS notifications on Windows / macOS / Linux.

Q: How long are notifications kept? A: In-app notifications are kept for 90 days (read or unread), then removed automatically. You can also delete them anytime from the notification center. Email preferences and other notification settings in your profile are separate and are not aged out with the inbox.

Reading a notification

Click a notification in the bell or the Notifications page to open it and see the full details - which site, error, or period it refers to. Some notifications relate to billing or plan usage (see Plan limits).

Mark Read, Delete, and Mark All Read affect only the in-app entry. They do not undo emails that were already sent: those are delivered when the event fires, based on your Notification Preferences at that moment. If you no longer want a class of notifications, turn it off in your profile - that is the upstream switch.
