Protection mode and Pause site¶
Two ways to silence a site¶
Patcherly can temporarily stop your connector from detecting errors and applying fixes on one site. Both use the same silence pipe; the dashboard label tells you which intent is active.

Disable site (mark inactive) is different: it does not silence ingest. Use Pause or Protection mode when you need the connector to stop sending and applying.
What silence does to your connector¶
Full silence until the lock lifts:
- No error detection
- No fix polling or apply
Your application keeps running; only the Patcherly connector pipeline for that site is on hold.
Protection mode (security)¶
When it triggers automatically¶
When enough suspicious errors come from one site within a short rolling window, Patcherly enters protection mode for that site. Exact thresholds are set by Patcherly and may appear in the site banner.
How long it lasts and how to release early¶
The dashboard shows when protection mode will auto-release. Anyone with Manage sites permission can Release protection mode sooner - you must enter a short reason so there is a record.
Will I be notified?¶
When a site enters protection mode, your workspace may receive email (if notification preferences allow Site protection mode).
When a single error is quarantined, your workspace is not emailed - the error stays visible in the dashboard with a quarantine badge. Patcherly Staff are alerted so they can review and mark false positives benign.
Manually triggering protection mode¶
If you suspect an attack before the automatic threshold fires, anyone with Manage sites can trigger protection mode from the site page (reason required). You cannot activate Protection mode while Pause is already active - Resume first, then Activate.
Pause site (maintenance)¶
Use Pause site from the Sites More actions menu when you are deploying or doing maintenance and want monitoring quiet for a fixed window. On WordPress, the same control is near the top of Patcherly → Settings.
- Always lasts 4 hours (or until you Resume).
- Shows a Paused badge with the auto-resume time.
- Resume site is available as a row action and in More actions while paused.
- No security alert email; a success toast is enough.
You cannot Pause while Protection mode is already active - Release protection mode first, then Pause.
Errors during silence¶
Errors that occur on your server while Pause or Protection mode is active are not captured by Patcherly. After Resume / Release (or auto-resume), normal monitoring resumes.
